Gastrophoria is indulging my carb-loving side at Osteria Mozza with their pasta tasting menu.
It’s like the anti-Christ of all diets and that’s exactly why it’s so satisfying. Plates after plates of carb-y goodness, each uniquely different but tasty in their own way.
From the cool, yet warm (thanks to the well-hidden jalapenos), squid ink pasta salad featuring sweet uni and Dungeness crab (Course #1), to the famous egg-butter-cheese explosion (Course #2), to the springy orecchiette showered with crispy buttered bread crumbs, sausage ragu (Course #5), my taste buds were fully utilized and sated. Here is the menu:
1. Squid Ink Chitarra Freddi
2. Ricotta & Egg Raviolo with browned butter
3. Agnolotti, burro e salvia
4. Garganelli with argue Bolognese
5. Orecchiette with sausage & Swiss chard
6. Pici with oxtail ragu
7. Rosemary Olive Oil Cakes with olive oil gelato
8. Bombolini with huckleberry & lemon mascarpone
And since it’s Mozza, it’s improper to leave without some cheese action from their Mozzarella Bar! Thus, burrata crostini and the mozzarella tasting acted as our ‘palate cleansers’ for the evening.
Due to the long nature of tasting menus, I visited the powder room twice (TMI alert). I found myself drawn to Mozza’s hand soap because it smelled so good—light, citrusy, yet complicated. Did some research afterwards and found that the company, Further, uses discard grease from Mozza (and other nearby restaurants) and recycles it to biofuel. The byproduct, glycerin, is then used to create their soaps and lotions. Talk about a full-circle! Their products can be found in the restaurants’ restrooms and online. I’m tempted to get some or return to Mozza for another round…
Here’s to an unforgettable meal!
